Domino Study - Donepezil and memantine in moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease

We are carrying out a study funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Alzheimer's Society to try to find out which of the current medications works best to help people with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. At present it is not clear which medications people should take once their condition becomes more severe. The study has been designed to assess whether donepezil (Aricept) alone or combined with memantine can give significant benefits when prescribed for longer than the current NICE guidelines recommend.

The study will last for 1 year, within this time the participant will attend 5 times when they will be asked to answer some memory questions, the participant's carer will also be asked a series of questions.

To be in this study you need to have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and taking donepezil (Aricept), you also need a carer or family member willing to be involved as well. Contact Abi Wright for more information about this study telephone 01225 476420.
