Research Volunteers

RICE is always looking for participants to take part in our research.

Clinical Trials Research at RICE

If you have a diagnosis of dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment you may be eligible to take part in one of our clinical trials exploring new drug therapies for treating dementia and memory decline.

Neuropsychology Research at RICE

If you have a diagnosis of dementia we would also welcome your participation in one of our neuropsychology research projects. Please see the Neuropsychology Research section for an overview of some our research themes and current projects. Very often it is possible for individuals to be involved in both our clinical trials and neuropsychological research studies.

If you do not have memory problems, or dementia, but wish to contribute towards our research we have a number of psychology studies running which would be suitable for you. Much of our neuropsychology research focuses on developing psychology assessments which are sensitive to the memory and cognitive changes associated with dementia, for these tests to be useful we need to understand how people without memory problems perform on these assessments as well.  We welcome participation into these studies on a "one-off" basis, or alternatively, participants can choose to contribute over the longer term through our Healthy Volunteer Panel (please see below).

Healthy Volunteer Panel

At RICE we maintain a healthy volunteer panel to aid our research. This panel consists of a database of healthy older adults (typically over 50 and without memory problems and past neurological difficulties) who have agreed to be contacted regarding future participation in research studies. People on this database are under no obligation to take part in future research studies, however many members of our volunteer panel have participated in multiple research projects and have found participation to be very rewarding. Please see below for the comments of one of our longstanding healthy volunteers regarding her experience of research participation.

Healthy Volunteer: Mrs X

"Taking part in RICE's research gave me an insight into some of the things i take for granted each day, like being able to remember day-to-day events, and being able to understand language and the things i see and hear around me. I think we often forget how important these things are - we just don't think about them. I found it very satisfying that by contributing to the research going on at RICE i was ultimately helping individuals who had dementia”.
