Psychology Research

The psychology research programme is co-ordinated by Dr Claudia Metzler-Baddeley. The broad research interests are:

  • Neuropsychology: memory, attention, executive functions, and single case studies.
  • Cognitive Psychology: memory and executive function with particular emphasis on the breakdown of inhibitory processes associated with ageing.
  • Health Psychology: quality of life in dementia.
  • Applied Psychology: compensatory mechanisms and strategies for age related decline in cognitive performance, including memory rehabilitation, electronic memory aids and collaborative memory.

To achieve this programme of research, RICE has collaborative links with several academic institutions including the Universities of Plymouth, Bath, Bristol, Manchester, London, York and Leeds. RICE is a member of the European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium (EADC). We are currently involved in two EADC funded projects ICTUS and DESCRIPA (for more information on these projects please refer to: http://eadc.alzheimer-europe.org/eadc.html)

In addition to our patient research, we have a programme of research involving healthy older adult volunteers (60 years plus). These studies aim to identify the processes involved in healthy age related change in cognitive processes, for example in everyday skills including memory, language and problem solving skills.

We are always interested in recruiting new healthy volunteers to participate in our research. If you are interested in becoming a healthy, older adult volunteer please contact Dr Claudia Metzler-Baddeley at RICE e-mail: Claudia Metzler-Baddeley
