Psychology Research
The broad research interests are:
- Cognitive Neuropsychology: changes in perception, attention, memory and executive functions associated with healthy ageing and age-related cognitive impairment/dementia.
- Applied Neuropsychology: compensatory mechanisms and strategies for age related decline in cognitive performance, with an emphasis on memory rehabilitation.
- Health Psychology: quality of life in dementia.
To achieve this programme of research, RICE has collaborative links with several academic institutions including the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Manchester, London, York and Leeds. RICE is also a member of the European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium (EADC).
We are always interested in recruiting new healthy volunteers to help us with our research. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Dr. Krist Noonan at RICE e-mail: k.noonan@bath.ac.uk
Examples of current projects:
Optimising learning and memory in healthy older people: The role of error reduction versus active generation.
Individualised memory rehabilitation for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and early stage dementia based on errorless learning, elaborative encoding, and spaced retrieval.
The nature of visual impairments associated with Posterior Cortical Atrophy, the visual variant of Alzheimer's disease.
Changes in perception and attention in dementia with Lewy-Bodies and associated sleep disorders
Age related changes in haptic perception.
