On the 25th of May, Nicolle visited the Midsomer Norton Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) group. The group is organised through AgeUK and run by Paul Watermeyer and Anne-Katell Peton. Nicolle was invited to the group to provide some feedback on how the group was being run and if there were any areas that could be improved upon.
The senses and emotions were the themes for the week’s session. Group members were asked to close their eyes and taste different foods and try to identify them. They brainstormed different emotions starting with the letters A through to H. 10 minutes of chair exercises was a lovely addition to the session. The group was challenging and stimulating which is exactly how the group should be run. Nicolle could see just how beneficial Cognitive Stimulation therapy is for people with dementia.
After completing a course of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy at RICE, our participants have the option of continuing with one of the MCST. AgeUK run groups in Bath, Midsomer Norton, and Keynsham.
